Evolution Apartments is now the third Brisbane property within the Rae Family management rights portfolio. The family started out in the industry more than 16 years ago and over that period have purchased seven different management rights properties with their first being a boutique resort located in the northern beaches region of Cairns.

After four years learning the ropes at this property, Ken, Maureen and their three children then moved away from Tropical North Queensland down the coast to the iconic Hastings St in Noosa Heads where they opened Bella Casa Noosa. Later seeing the synergies of running two properties in the same street they acquired another prominent Hastings Street property, Maison La Plage (now called Maison Noosa).

Now with two properties in their portfolio, Ken and Maureen decided to hand over day to day running of both properties to their sons, Ryan and Aaron, allowing them to step back and focus on further investment and growth in the business. It was then that they identified the opportunity in Brisbane and decided to purchase the iconic property, Macarthur Chambers Heritage Apartments.

Today, the Rae family still own Macarthur Chambers and have since purchased Central Brunswick in Fortitude Valley but their newest venture is Evolution Apartments. As a result they have on-sold their investments in Noosa to focus their combined energies on their three Brisbane based properties. Aaron as the group general manager has operational responsibility across the properties. Nicole, their youngest daughter has stepped into the role of quality assurance manager while Ken and Maureen continue to focus on the strategic growth of their business. Ryan continues in an advisory role as a director of the company.

Evolution Apartments is conveniently located on the outskirts of Brisbane CBD with views over the Brisbane River, Evolution is a brand new complex catering primarily to the corporate travel market.

Ken said, “We purchased Evolution off the plan in March 08 from Citimark. We took on Evolution basically because we know the Brisbane market and we know the corporate sector remains strong within it. We knew Evolution would be perfect for the corporate travel market because it is a great property in the right location and it compliments our other corporate properties, MacArthur Chambers and Central Brunswick.”

While it hasn’t been long since the Rae’s added Evolution to their list, this property certainly won’t be the last with Ken admitting, “We are always on the lookout for an opportunity that will allow us to expand our business and we are currently in negotiations to possible pick-up another CBD property.”

Since the property opened in March 2008, Aaron – Evolution’s general manager –has put in a lot of effort into marketing the property.
